It’s New Music Friday once more! And there’s plenty of good stuff out there and you can count on us to find the new music you need to here…this week our top 5 picks include new releases by Princess Chelsea, Gorillaz, Iron & Wine and more.
And…there’s a new episode of our Podcast: Sound Thinking with Graham Reid and Marty Duda…details below:
Here are our picks for the five albums that deserve your consideration on this New Music Friday:
- Princess Chelsea & The Dream Warriors – Live At Studio Two (Lil’ Chief) Princess Chelsea records at Abbey Road! Back in ’22 Chelsea and her Dream Warriors occupied the hallowed halls of Abbey Road Studios and recorded this album live to tape. To prove it, there is a multi-cam video of the whole she-bang. That’s live on YouTube now. But you can also buy the (Yellow) vinyl version or enjoy even more tracks digitally. Click here to read the 13th Floor Album Review.

2. Iron & Wine – Hen’s Teeth (Sub Pop) “I’ve always wanted to use that title,” Sam Beam says of Hen’s Teeth, his eighth full-length album and his sixth for Sub Pop Records. “I just love it. To me it suggests the impossible. Hen’s teeth do not exist. And that’s what this record felt like: a gift that shouldn’t be there but it is. An impossible thing but it’s real.” Hen’s Teeth and his previous album, Light Verse, are siblings of a sort. They were recorded during the same sessions after a year’s-long dry spell, with the same band, at Waystation studio in Laurel Canyon. 3. Gorillaz – The Mountain (Kong) Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett are back with a cast of thousands. The Mountain is a monumental collection of 15 tracks that explore ideas of death and the afterlife. On board to help are many artist who have worked with Gorillaz in the past but have since passed on…Dennis Hopper, Bobby Womack, Mark E. Smith,Tony Allen…to name a few. And quite a few who are still kicking…Johnny Marr, Anoushka Shankar, IDLES and Sparks. Click here to read the 13th Floor Album Review.

4. Em Beihold – Tales Of A Failed Shapeshifter (Republic) Singer-songwriter Em Beihold knows a thing or two about shapeshifting. On her long-awaited debut album, Tales of a Failed Shapeshifter, she’s ready to tell all the ways she’s done that: in relationships, friendships, and most of all, as an artist. The 27-year-old LA native released her first EP almost nine years ago. Click here to watch the 13th Floor MusicTalk Interview and find out why it took so long to release this debut album.

5. Rob Zombie – The Great Satan (Nuclear Blast) After four years, Rob Zombie is back with new music. This new album brings Zombie back to his Hellbilly roots with frenetic cuts such as Punks & Demons, Heathen Days, (I’m a) Rock ‘N’ Roller and Tarantula. Part of the reason he sounds sound energize is the return of former bandmates Riggs and Blasko. But let’s face it, Rob is hot…firing on all cylanders, singing as if his life depends on it…maybe it does.
