Stereolab Announce Two New Zealand Shows – June 2026
The panic is over! Banished Music and Strange News are impossibly excited to be hosting iconic Anglo-French avant-pop group Stereolab for two very special shows in Aotearoa this June.
Fans who saw the Strange Universe: Winter series announcement yesterday will have seen the band confirmed to play Powerstation on Thursday 25 June, but Wellington fans can breathe a sigh of relief with the announcement of a standalone Stereolab show at Meow Nui, Wednesday 24 June.
Returning on the mechanical heels of last year’s brilliant album Instant Holograms on Metal Film. This was the band’s first studio album in fifteen years, and followed their celebrated reunion in 2019. The Guardian hailed the album as “a radiant return”, and Rolling Stone fizzed over the band’s “gliding grooves, wowing-and-fluttering synthesizers, and lyrics that elegantly pine for more”
“..hailed as an inspiration by everyone from Deerhoof to Tyler, the Creator”
– The Guardian
Stereolab have a cult following for a very good reason, with Banished and Strange News beyond astonished to have secured one of their all time favourite acts for these two hotly anticipated shows.
