Black Country, New Road – Powerstation: March 3, 2026 (13th Floor Concert Review)
Formed in Cambridge in 2018, Black Country, New Road have gone through some changes over the years. the most notable being the departure of lead vocalist and songwriter Isaac Wood.
Wood’s departure has intiated a depature in music style as well. The band has gone from post-punk, to chamber pop with vocal vocals and principal songwriting duties being taken over by members Tyler Hyde, Georgia Ellery, and May Kershaw.
Its a change for the better and the beautiful as The Powerstation was transformed into some kind of Celtic wonderland with the six bandmembers playing flutes, recorders, horns, mandolins, banjo, harpsichord, lap steel and any other number of wind and stringed intruments.

And the vocals were stunning…as was the sound mix.
Kudos to all involved, including operners Ringlets who did bring some post-punk to the table as Black Country, New Road put on what might be the surprise show of the season…surprising in how musical and satisfying this night was.
