Mikey Videotape Quartet – St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church- March 28, 2026 (13th Floor Concert Review)

Auckland artist Mikey Videotape paid tribute to the songs of Radiohead last night at St. Luke’s Church with the help of a string quartet. The results were nothing short of heavenly.

This is the second show this month I’ve seen at a church…check out my review of Jolie Holland at Pitt St Methodist…and in my opinion, this is the best use for these buildings, as music brings people together far more often than religion. (Don’t get me started)

But back to the show…

Mikey has assembled a quartet consisting of Charmian Keay (1st violin), Lydia Sewell (2nd violin), Crystal Lin (viola) and Begonia Chan (cello) along with pianist Camila Oliveira….filling in at the last minute…and Mikey’s 10-year-old son on drums!

But first, we heard Mikey solo, performing Weird Fishes from In Rainbows proving to the 100 or so fans in attendance that he does, indeed, have the vocal chops to pull this off.

The quartet and the (very) young drummer were introduced, and we heard Nude…also from In Rainbows…in its full glory. The strings resonated beautifully in the high ceiling and Mikey’s soaring vocal was to die for.

The shows consisted of two 40 minute sets, with a complementary drink available during the interval.

The setlist mixed obscurities (Talk Show Host…a B-side), along with a healthy portion of OK Computer.

Mikey was forved to “roll with the punches” when a missing capo forced him to close the first set with Fake Plastic Trees instead of the planned Exit Music.

But have no fear, Exit Music made it into the second set, along with crowd favourites like Karma Police and Creep.

The audience was mesmerized as Mikey’s voice blended beautifully with the strings, the piano and the occasional drums.

At the end of the evening I felt as I had made peace with my maker…no need to get up early on Sunday morning for services, we worshipped a higher power here tonight.
