The Sour – Your God & Mine: 13th Floor New Song Of The Day
Tāmaki Makaurau-based four-piece The Sour are a band of badass wāhine bonded by a shared love of grunge, punk, and all things loud and heavy. With two pervious singles having already made noise across Aotearoa’s alternative scene, the group now prepare to release their debut EP Daughters, due out in May 2026.Here is the blurb with more
Daughters captures the band’s love of heavy riffs, gritty hooks, and unapologetic attitude, while celebrating friendship, whakapapa, and the power of wāhine making loud music together.
The first single taken from the EP, Your God & Mine, is a nod to desert rock with Supreme-like backing vocals. If you’ve ever been a kid stuck in church when you’d rather be anywhere else, this track is for you.

The Sour bring together decades of collective experience from some of the country’s most beloved underground and alternative acts. The band is made up of Lani Purkis (Kahungunu ki Wairoa, Te Uriroroi) on bass and vocals, formerly of Foamy Ed, Elemeno P, and Delete Delete, and an ISC finalist and semi-finalist; Jessie Booth on guitar and vocals, also playing in Ekko Park, Elemeno P, Sam Cullen, Velveteen Shakes, and LEIGH; Jana Te Nahu Owen (Rongomaiwahine, Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairoa, Rongowhakaata, Te Ātiawa) on drums and vocals, known for her work with Carnys, Padded Cell, Invisible Threads, Somme, and Bub; and Tam Matchett on guitar and vocals, who also performs with Demons of Noon alongside various opera and theatrical projects.
